Salt of the Earth Precision Drill Team

Salt of the Earth is an exciting youth program designed to foster a positive environment for all in our community. The key goal is to develop self-discipline, self-esteem, and a strong positive attitude in each child that participates in the program. Since the time it originated in the late 1990’s Salt of the Earth has had as a core value the involvement of all youth who want to participate. No child within the target age range will be turned away, regardless of race, religion, financial status, educational achievement, previous experience, or gender. Also among our key values is a desire to unite with other youth organizations to offer our at-risk children a comprehensive array of free options leading to a bright future.

The first stage of the program is to enroll each child into a drill team. This activity teaches the children self-discipline and gives them a sense of togetherness. In the first three months of the program each child is required to learn the basic commands of the drill team and, in the next three months, the basic precision drill steps. At the end of the initial six-month period the child will graduate to the next part of the program. This second stage of the program is designed to help the child to identify and develop potential skills and interests in other areas, such as acting, math, science, music, dance, public speaking and even social skills.

Programs such as Salt of the Earth thrive and depend on strong community involvement. Volunteers can aid as teachers, mentors, tutors, chaperones, workshop leaders, drivers, advocates, donors and supporters in a multiplicity of areas. We are counting on our communities to make this program a success!!
